General steps
- Connect to your router network.
- Open the router admin page using its local IP.
- Sign in with the router’s admin credentials.
- Open Wireless, Wi-Fi, WLAN, or Security settings.
- Choose a strong new password and save.
- Reconnect phones, computers, TVs, and other devices.
Choose a safer password
Use a long, unique password that is not your name, address, phone number, or router brand. Do not reuse a sensitive account password. Test your candidate passphrase with our 100% private Wi-Fi Password Strength & Crack Time Estimator to verify resistance against offline GPU attacks.
What changes after saving?
Every wireless device using the old key will disconnect and must join again. Smart TVs, cameras, printers, speakers, and IoT devices may need manual reconnection. Keep one already-authorised connection available while testing the new key.
Settings worth checking together
- Use WPA3-Personal when all important devices support it, otherwise use WPA2-AES or the router's supported transitional option.
- Keep the administrator password separate from the Wi-Fi key.
- Do not publish the SSID, password, or recovery code in a screenshot.
- Test one phone and one other device before reconnecting the whole home.
Our networking steps are lab-tested against standard RFC 1918 private networking protocols across Windows 11 (24H2), macOS Sequoia (15.1), iOS 18, and Android 15. We verify physical device labels and firmware release documentation before publishing gateway instructions. Router Portal is strictly read-only and never requests, intercepts, or logs router passwords.
