The Diagnostic Reality: A blinking RED LOS light means the received optical power has dropped below -27 dBm or -28 dBm (the sensitivity threshold of Class B+ / C+ optical transceivers). Normal operating range is between -8 dBm and -25 dBm.
1) Inspect the thin yellow fiber patch cord for sharp bends or kinks (radius must be > 30mm).
2) Check that the green SC/APC connector is firmly clicked into the optical port.
3) If physical cabling is undamaged, the optical break is on the ISP's street distribution fiber (closure or splitter drop); you must call your ISP to test line loss with an OTDR.
LED State: Blinking RED (1–2 Hz)
CRITICAL
Optical input power is below transceiver sensitivity threshold (< -27 dBm). Frame synchronization lost. Upstream laser disabled to prevent network interference.
1. GPON Optical Power Threshold Matrix
| Optical RX Power (dBm) | ITU-T Status | LED State | Physical Layer Health & Impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| > -8.0 dBm | Receiver Overload | PON Solid Green | Photodiode saturation. High non-linear bit error rate. Optical attenuator pad required. |
| -14.0 to -24.0 dBm | Optimal Window | PON Green / LOS Dark | Perfect optical frame clock sync. 0 uncorrectable FEC blocks. Flawless gigabit throughput. |
| -25.0 to -27.0 dBm (Class B+) -28.0 to -30.0 dBm (Class C+) |
Marginal / Critical | PON Intermittent / Blinking | Transimpedance amplifier threshold jitter. Random packet loss, burst drops during thermal swings. |
| < -27.0 dBm (B+) / < -30.0 dBm (C+) (or -40.0 dBm Total Blackout) |
Loss of Signal (LOS) | LOS Blinking RED (1–2 Hz) | Photodiode CDR loss. Total blackout. Upstream burst laser disabled. Physical fiber break or cut. |
PON vs. LOS Light Behavior Combinations
- PON Solid Green, LOS Off: Perfect state. The ONT is synchronized with the ISP OLT and service is active.
- PON Blinking Green, LOS Off: ONT is attempting to register, authenticate LOID/SLID password, or negotiate ranging with the OLT.
- LOS Blinking Red, PON Off: Physical glass fiber disconnected, broken, severely bent, or ISP street fiber cut.
🛡️ Router Portal Verification & Safety Standard
Our networking steps are lab-tested against standard RFC 1918 private networking protocols across Windows 11 (24H2), macOS Sequoia (15.1), iOS 18, and Android 15. We verify physical device labels and firmware release documentation before publishing gateway instructions. Router Portal is strictly read-only and never requests, intercepts, or logs router passwords.
