Admin password or Wi-Fi password?
The admin password opens the router settings page. The Wi-Fi password connects a device to the network. Changing one does not always change the other.
Try the safe options first
- Check the router label or setup record.
- Ask the person who configured the router.
- Use the router’s documented recovery flow if one exists.
- Back up settings before making a change.
After a reset
Reconnect using the setup instructions for your model, create a new strong admin password, and change the default Wi-Fi password.
Recovery decision
| Situation | Do this first | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi works, admin login fails | Confirm the admin credential and exact model recovery | Trying universal passwords |
| Only Wi-Fi password is forgotten | Check a saved device or router label | Resetting the router immediately |
| Previous owner set the router | Ask the owner or ISP for authorised recovery | Guessing credentials |
| Reset is unavoidable | Collect ISP/WAN setup details first | Resetting without a reconfiguration plan |
After recovery, create a unique administrator password and keep a private setup note. Never send the password, Wi-Fi key, or serial number to a public website.
Our networking steps are lab-tested against standard RFC 1918 private networking protocols across Windows 11 (24H2), macOS Sequoia (15.1), iOS 18, and Android 15. We verify physical device labels and firmware release documentation before publishing gateway instructions. Router Portal is strictly read-only and never requests, intercepts, or logs router passwords.
